Frequently asked questions

How large is the Brazil–United States trade balance in January–July 2026?

Brazil carries a US$ 2.24 billion deficit: US$ 20.99 billion exported against US$ 23.23 billion imported. It is one of the few large partnerships where Brazil buys more than it sells, and the gap amounts to roughly 5% of total bilateral trade in the period.

What does Brazil export most to the United States?

Crude petroleum oils lead at US$ 2.24 billion, followed by semi-finished iron and steel products (US$ 1.55 billion) and aircraft (US$ 1.35 billion). Unlike Asian partners, no single line exceeds 11% of the basket — exports to the US market are industrially more varied.

What does Brazil import from the United States?

Refined petroleum leads at US$ 3.89 billion, ahead of medicaments (US$ 1.44 billion) and gas turbines (US$ 1.03 billion). Petroleum runs both ways: Brazil sold US$ 2.24 billion in crude and bought US$ 997.4 million of the same chapter, on top of the refined volumes.

Why do petroleum and aircraft appear on both sides?

These are intra-industry chapters: Brazil exports crude (US$ 2.24 billion) and imports refined product (US$ 3.89 billion), because the refining step adds value abroad. Aircraft follow the same pattern, with US$ 1.35 billion sold and US$ 816.8 million bought, reflecting different models and sizes.
